All of Eat Mexico’s tour guides speak fluent English and have a passion for food. Here’s a little bit more about each of them.
Natalia Gris
What clients have said about Natalia: What clients have said about Janneth:
Natalia is bilingual and born and raised in Mexico City. She has worked as tour leader for three years around Mexico, Belize and Guatemala. She has been leading tours with Eat Mexico since November 2010. “I enjoy working with tourists from all over the world and love Mexican food,” she says.
Favorite taco: Cochinita pibil with red onion and habanero sauce!
Mezcal, tequila or pulque? TEQUILA! Of course. But I like the pulque curaditos too.
Red or green salsa? Both.
–”The tour guide was very good. We had high expectations and these were exceeded.”
–”Natalia was great. A truly enlightening (and delicious) tour.”Janneth Lopez

Janneth, originally from Veracruz, studied in Guadalajara and worked as an industrial designer before following her heart to Mexican gastronomy. “Cooking for us is a family tradition,” she says. She’s currently studying for a diploma in Mexican History and Gastronomy from Mexico City’s Escuela de Gastronomía Mexicana.
Favorite street food:I am addicted to tacos (all kinds) and lately to tlacoyos (de requesón)
One thing you enjoy cooking at home: New recipes. I like to experience new things all the time.
Mezcal or tequila?I prefer pulque. The “curados” are extremely good, yummie!
– “Janneth was incredible. Not only was she a delight to spend a morning with, but she was very knowledgeable about Mexican food, knew all the vendors in Mercado San Juan, and clearly had a passion for what she does. We really can’t say enough good things about her.” Ben Herrera
Ben grew up surrounded by food — his family owned a restaurant in Mexico City for about 40 years. Ben lived in the United States for a short while but returned to Mexico in 2010, where he discovered a passion for Mexican food that he didn’t know he had. His blog, What’s Cooking Mexico, documents his journey rediscovering his roots through food.
Favorite street food: Tacos. There are so many possibilities that you can go for months without eating the same kind.
The Mexican fruit I’d crave if I were stuck on a desert island: Guavas. Mango would be my first option, but they’re not native to Mexico. Guavas are just so aromatic that having that smell with me would remind me of home, and give me hope to get back.
What clients have said about Ben:
– “My guide Ben was able to shed light on the ways of the locals in the city and their preference for street food, when the rest of the world is more concerned with being seen at the newest, swankiest restaurants. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing about his food blogging over a tasty taco (more like three) and now look forward to making my own corn tortillas the right way. A hugely satisfying food tour!”
